2010, My First Accountability Group

I first got involved in creating Accountability Groups in 2010 when a neighbor and I had a New Year’s Eve conversation. Both said next year will be different. In that conversation, we called each other out. We both said, “If we don’t do something different, we will be right back here next year.” We committed to meeting the following week to outline what became an accountability group.

The following year, I was in the process of leaving my corporate job and starting a new career on my own. It hasn’t been easy and we both had uncomfortable moments facing the music when we didn’t follow through on our commitments But in time we have become much more than we were in 2010.

I challenge you to do the same. Have you ever struggled and said “next year will be amazing” but then in 12 short months, you find yourself saying the same thing again (with little to show for last year)?

How Are You Doing?

I bet you have big goals for this year.

  • How are you doing with what you set out to do at the beginning of the year?
  • Given where we are in the calendar, are you where you should be?

Maybe you didn’t set any goals for this year. There is nothing magic about January 1. You can create goals any time (like now!).

We can all fool ourselves into thinking that with enough willpower and discipline to take action we don’t need anyone else to hold us accountable. Yes, discipline to take action is a required to achieve any goal. But isn’t the real key to success Discipline AND Accountability?

You are responsible for the discipline. Only you can take action on doing what you know you should do.

But, you need others (like people in an accountability group) to help you with accountability.

Take the Next Step

If you mean it when you say that you must create extraordinary results, you have some options.

1. Do It Yourself

You can start your own group, and if you do, this is what you will need to do:

  • Consistently and effectively facilitate the group and keep each meeting on point.
  • Facilitate a balanced conversation, meaningful challenge, and call out members who are either overly engaged or disengaged.
  • Track each member’s commitments from meeting to meeting (so commitments don’t fall through the cracks).
  • Provide meeting materials and agendas.
2. Or, Join a Group

We are accepting applications for next quarter’s Authentic Accountability Groups™.

As a member of this group, you will:

    • Create bold commitments/ goals (with guidance).
    • Meet twice per month for 1.5 hours with a group of 5 to 6 total members.
    • At the meetings, determine your highest priority commitments that you will accomplish before the next meeting.
    • Receive feedback and appropriate challenge from me and the group while holding you accountable.
    • Document clear actions – expected results – and realistic deadlines.
    • Provide updated status of actions you committed to since the last meeting.
    • Share your successes with the group (which you don’t have a chance to do any other place).
    • Receive productivity and or personal leadership lessons from me at each meeting for you to apply and that will increase your personal effectiveness.

    • Commit to new actions
that you will accomplish before the next meeting.

Note: The Authentic Accountability Groups are offered through Authentic Business Services LLC and Christopher Jones (me). This is not a networking or referral group. Although referrals may happen on their own, the design of this group is not for referrals.

Great Success

I like the template provided at the meeting that helps me come to the meeting prepared with the results I created since our last meeting. I especially like the learning topics Chris brings to each meeting to help us increase our productivity and effectiveness.”

I participate in an Authentic Accountability Group and have found it to be a tremendous help in my business, especially with goal-setting and follow-through. I have also attended several of Chris’ Authentic Lunch events and highly recommend them-fascinating guests, great networking, and always a positive and fun vibe!”

“As a member of the group, I appreciate having to be accountable. I am making myself purposely uncomfortable because I simply must do what I say I am going to do. I find this to be an extremely valuable tool in breaking my procrastination habit.”

Next Steps

The next groups will begin next quarter. So, we are accepting applications now. Meeting days and times will be determined by the collective group availability.

Initial commitment is 3 months. It will simply take a few meetings to see real results with your goals and commitments. After 3 months you will be able to effectively assess if Authentic Accountability provides you sufficient accountability.

Documented guidelines will be shared at your application interview including confidentiality for members of the group. Simply put, breaches of confidentiality are not acceptable.

I simply want to help you to be successful in achieving more this year than any other year.

Investment

Part of elevating commitment is to have skin in the game. Not only is there an investment of your time, there is a financial investment to help you maintain accountability at the right priority.

I look forward to hearing from you. Apply today. There is no obligation to join after applying.

After applying, we will schedule a one-on-one meeting with you. Come prepared because this is a working meeting to learn more about you and whether you have pre-identified goals or not, we will determine together what big goals you need to achieve this year.
