In a report from Harvard Business School, it was found that only 28% of managers got any kind of training in delegation. I never received training on delegation! Did you get training on how to delegate?
This is not only one of the top requests I get from the IT leaders I work with but also why delegation stands alone in the Authentic Leader framework that I teach.
There are countless reasons technology leaders don’t delegate and I’ve heard them all. From “it takes too much time” to “they won’t do it good enough”. And, everything in-between.
But intuitively these same leaders know that they can’t do it all, and there are other higher-level activities they should be focusing on but can’t because they are doing things other team members could or should do.
Here are some of the highlights from this episode.
- I explain each of the four steps I found to be a surefire approach to delegation to your technical teams.
- The magic question I ask anyone I am delegating work to that automatically increases accountability to get assignments done on time.
- What to do once delegated work is complete.

Thank you for listening to The Authentic Leader Show Podcast.
I look forward to hearing from you. Until then, remember, you don’t need to be a leader of leaders. Just be the leader others want to follow. Be, an Authentic Leader.
