Today I’m sharing the 4 Pillars of an Authentic Leader. These are the 4 basic pillars necessary to lead high-performing technology teams.

I talk a lot about frustrated leaders. I know frustrated leaders because I was the poster child for frustrated leaders. If you are like I was, you also may be a frustrated leader, if you are doing one of these three things:

  • never considered making a leadership plan and even if you did, you wouldn’t know where to start.
  • have never thought about what you want your leadership should look like.
  • see how other leaders make it look easy but confused why it’s not so easy for you.

Tell me if you can identify with one of these:

  • jumping from one leadership idea, system, philosophy to the next without feeling improvement.
  • mimicking (either intentionally or subconsciously) the styles of other leaders.
  • feeling like you are pretending that you have it all together only to feel like someday you will found out that you don’t really know what you are doing.

The problem is that you never give yourself a chance to create momentum and restart from ground zero again.

I’ve spent 25+ years understanding what it takes to become an Authentic Leader. I’ve had countless modifications as I learned, tried, and improved. Ultimately determined that there are 4 basic pillars to leading authentically.

  1. Own Your Leadership Success
  2. Commit to Your Team’s Success
  3. Create a Culture of Confident Decision Making & Accountability
  4. Invest in the Team’s Success

In this podcast, I break these down a little to help you establish your leadership foundation with these 4 pillars. This is a simple foundation, and I have helped hundreds of technology leaders establish their foundation as leaders.
