Today’s podcast is about The One Thing Keeping You From Achieving Your Goals.
It’s an episode about, adding one simple step to double your goal achievement.

Have you ever struggled with achieving goals? Are you like a lot of people and “burnt out on goals”?

Do you diligently create goals using the S.M.A.R.T. goal format (or some other goal template)?

Do you start off each year super excited and motivated to accomplish your goals? But eventually, lose that energy and feel exhausted having completed a goal creation exercise. Perhaps you even consciously or subconsciously forget about your goals.

  • You may find the S.M.A.R.T. format is hard for you to meet the requirements of a “good” goal.
  • After carefully crafting your goals, you jump back to the daily urgencies that take priority.
  • Your goals end up being put away to look at later, only to realize that you didn’t accomplish your goals at your year-end review or when you write next year’s goals.

Mistakes most leaders make when making goals in the first place are that they spend a lot of energy making goals fit into a goal-making formula. I suggest that goals don’t need to fit into a formula. As long as your goal is clear to you and you know what it means.

Another mistake is writing goals to impress your boss, your team, or someone else. Goals are and should be personal and designed to only impress you.

The consequences of making these mistakes are that you fail to achieve or you are disappointed with the goals you set for yourself. Or, goals that you achieve are really someone else’s goals and they don’t fulfill you.

In this podcast, I share this one simple step to my goal planning process that I began to more intentionally and successfully achieve my goals.
